Film Lecture: Summertime In-Person
A middle-aged, unmarried American secretary (Katharine Hepburn) travels to Venice on vacation and meets and falls in love with a handsome Italian antique shop owner (Rossano Brazzi). Director David Lean shot the movie on location in glorious Technicolor, and the city—with its churches, piazzas, and canals—is suffused with a special glow that enhances the romantic nature of the story.
