Making Frankenstein: A Dark Tale with Directors Don Mays and Roderick Giles

Making Frankenstein: A Dark Tale with Directors Don Mays and Roderick Giles In-Person

Barrington opens its doors to the film industry!

Join us on Monday, May 23 at 6:30 pm for a presentation and meet & greet with Don Mays and Roderick Giles, co-directors of Frankenstein: A Dark Tale which will begin filming in Rhode Island later this year. Secretary of State, Nellie Gorbea will be a guest speaker.

Frankenstein: A Dark Tale centers around a black Dr. Frankenstein who creates the first white man. Set in the 1940s, the film will be shot in black and white. It will feature Barrington’s historic town hall as one of the finalized shooting locations, representing the exterior of the town hall in ‘Blacktopia’. The independent film is also casting an A-listed actor in the lead.

The project will create opportunities for collaborations with the RI creative community to support local filmmaking craftsmen and cast community members in supporting roles. The film is a dramatic comedy with an ironic look at the social context. The directors have been awarded a coveted RI Film Commission Tax incentive and are working with investors who are interested in the opportunity to make a socially conscious investment, be patrons of the arts, and contribute to a project that will foster dialogue.

"We appreciate this historic community opening their arms and embracing our film," said Roderick Giles. "As a Rhode Island-based filmmaker, it makes me proud to be able to bring work and opportunities to the state," said Don Mays.
