Stop the Bleed® In-Person
Research has shown that bystanders, with some focused training on critical skills, can become heroic lifesavers. Join us on Thursday, April 4 at 6 pm and learn how you can save lives and build community resilience by empowering yourself to stop life-threatening hemorrhage.
The STOP THE BLEED® campaign is a national initiative aimed at empowering bystanders to take action during bleeding emergencies before professional help arrives. Here’s what you need to know:
- Purpose and Origin:
- Launched at the White House in 2015, STOP THE BLEED® teaches American citizens basic bleeding control techniques. These techniques are derived from military-tested methods and include using tourniquets to stop blood flow and packing open wounds with clean gauze.
- The campaign aims to save lives by equipping people with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in critical situations.
- What You’ll Learn:
- In a STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll acquire three essential techniques:
- Applying Pressure with Hands: Learn how to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound.
- Packing Wounds: Understand how to pack a wound to control bleeding.
- Tourniquet Application: Learn the correct method for applying a tourniquet.
- Armed with these skills, you’ll be better prepared to assist in emergencies and potentially save lives.
- In a STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll acquire three essential techniques:
- Who Can Take the Course:
- Anyone interested in learning this lifesaving skill can participate.
- The American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED® campaign has trained over 3 million people, including students, teachers, and community groups.
- The goal is to empower immediate responders who can make a difference during bleeding emergencies.
Remember, a bleeding injury can happen anywhere, and being equipped with these skills can mean the difference between life and death.
