Title: The Great Library Gingerbread Hunt!
From: Friday, December 12, 2025
To: Tuesday, December 23, 2025
Audiences: Adults, Kids, Teens
Description:

We are excited to announce that The Great Library Gingerbread Hunt is returning for the fourth year in a row to Barrington Public Library from December 12-23!

How it works:

  • Starting Friday, December 12, we will post a clue to the daily gingerbread man's location at 8 am on our Facebook page. Clues will also be available at the Reference Desk.
  • The gingerbread man will ONLY be located on the first floor of the library.
  • The first person to find the gingerbread man each day and bring him to the Reference Desk will receive a special prize.
  • Only one prize per person. Once you find him once, you won't be able to win again. We want to allow other patrons to play!
  • If the gingerbread man is not found one day, he will remain in play the following day(s) until he is found. We will post on Facebook when he has been found.
  • There will be 12 total daily gingerbread men. The last gingerbread man will be hidden on Tuesday, December 23.
  • Open to all ages!

The hunt starts on Friday....are you ready??

Please note: Clues will only be posted to our Facebook page. We highly recommend that you follow our Facebook page to be the first to spot the clue at 8 am!

To: 4:00pm Friday, January 23, 2026

Description:

Enjoy a short, crisp walk near the Resilience Garden* at Barrington Government Center and read the beautiful winter story: Hiders Seekers Finders Keepers, written by Jessica Kulekjian and illustrated by Salini Perera. Hiders Seekers is a poetic exploration of how varied animals prepare for the challenges of winter. Beautiful illustrations capture the stillness of the season while hibernation facts are immersed throughout each page.

The Story Walk along the Resilience Garden at Barrington Government Center is funded by a grant from the Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS).

*The Barrington Government Center Resilience Garden is an educational garden located along the walkways found between the library building and County Road. The garden is designed to be resilient to the effects of climate change that include at various times hotter, drier, and wetter conditions. It contains a variety of hardy, native, and locally sourced plants that require less watering, weeding, pesticides, and fertilizers than more traditional gardens. The garden functions as a community resource to help and encourage residents to create simple and affordable resilience gardens of their own.
